Free Facebook Page Tab CMS with Fan-gate

By Rob McNair

*** UPDATE – We now have this for Timeline width Pages ***

When someone lands on your Facebook fan pages, you want them to convert and the first conversion point for all fan pages is getting the user to Like the page. If you’re landing them on the wall, there is no guarantee that they will convert into fans. That’s where something called a fan-gate or reveal tab can come in.

Adding a fan-gate on your page content will give you the opportunity to require users to Like your page to be able to see the content. What you put there is totally up to you but we do have some tips.

The content that you provide to non-fans needs to be juicy enough to entice people to like your page. Also, to help, you can guide people’s eyes towards the Like button through the use of some artwork. See some examples below.

The mycleveragency Free Fan-gate App

To make things easier, we have developed an app to do all of this for you. Simply head to and you can install it straight to your page. Best of all this one is FREE!

Changing the content of your tabs

As you are probably the admin of the page you have just installed it on, when you go to the page you will see the CMS that builds your content. We have made it as easy to get your page tabs up as writing a word document. Alternatively if you feel comfortable with HTML you can directly add HTML to the editor by clicking the HTML button. When your content is complete click the Upload this content button and it will be made live instantly.

To keep it with the look and feel of Facebook, we have forced the tab to the 520 x 800px. You can, if needed, create a <div> within this app that is scrollable using the CSS property overflow and setting it to auto.

Making your fan-gate the default tab

As this page will be your number 1 conversion point to generate your new fans, you really want it to be the first page a new visitor sees. To make it your default page follow these steps:

  1. Go to your fan page wall.
  2. Click Edit Page on the top right of your fan page.
  3. Then choose Manage Permissions from the left menu.
  4. Select the tab name from the Default Landing Tab drop down menu.
  5. Click Save Changes to finish.

Changing the Tab Text

By Default we have made the text say “Welcome”. You can change this to whatever you want by following these steps:

  1. Go to your fan page wall.
  2. Click Edit Page on the top right of your fan page.
  3. Then choose Apps from the left menu.
  4. Scroll down and find mycleveragency Fan Only Content .
  5. Click edit settings for the above app.
  6. In the popup you can then enter a custom tab name. This will change it from Welcome to whatever you want.
  7. Click Save on this popup then click Ok
  8. Finally, click Save Changes to finish.

mycleveragency Free Fan-gate Do’s And Don’ts

DO add our fan-gate app. It’s free after all.

DO use a 520 x 800 pixel image for both sections if you’re not all that confident in coding.

DO test your page as someone that is not an Admin of the page. As an admin of a page you will not be presented with a fan-gate.

DO tell your friends about it by sharing with this post with them.

DO drop us a message if you want to use a fully functioning version of this. It comes with custom icons, and you can add in as much HTML, Javascript and CSS as you please.

DO share your page with us in the comments below.

DON’T try and add <script> or <style> tags, it would be best for you to use inline styles should you need to. We have also disabled certain HTML elements. Should you want advanced features and to remove the branding please contact us
