Following on from their recent successes on social, General Electric have been busy creating their own holiday. 3D Printing Day, on December 3rd, was penned by the brand to celebrate the way 3D printing is changing their work. They teamed up with a selection of designers, brands and well-known faces to create 3D printed gifts for their Twitter followers. Fans visited the brand’s Tumblr set up specifically for the day to pick their favourite design and tweet a message including the designer and GE handle and the #3DPrintMyGift hashtag. Winners would receive these gifts in time for Christmas – GE announcing their handle and gift on the Tumblr page. Throughout the day GE tweeted and posted on Tumblr a selection of Vines, photos and articles about 3D printing. The designers also tweeted their gifts from their accounts.
The idea of penning a ‘holiday’ seems a little steep but the 3D printing seemed to be very popular – and the Tumblr site and surrounding content is nicely conducted.
