Amazon EC2 Goes Down Taking Reddit, Wildfire, Quora, Hootsuite and FourSquare With It

Quora’s sorry for the inconvenience video

Cloud computing is all well and good until something goes wrong, above are just some of the sites that has suffered from the Amazon server outage causing them to go down completely.

Amazon says performance issues affected instances of its Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) service and its Relational Database Service, and it’s “continuing to work towards full resolution”. These are hosted in its North Virginia data centre. You can see the realtime status of the servers on the Amazon Dashboard.

This may well be just a malfunction from Amazon, but it does coincide with Terminator folklorethat says today is the day when SkyNet attacks! Maybe sentient machines is a far cry from the real cause of the down time, but maybe it could be a Judgment Day related hack.

Have you been affected by the Amazon downtime? Do you think it is actually Judgement Day, or a Judgement Day related hack? Where is the governator? Let us know in the comments.
