Google+ Launches Brand Pages

Google has launched Pages for brands and businesses, creating a new type of profile similar to Facebook Pages. Google+ Pages show a verified account symbol as well as a new, square icon, both at the top and on a ‘Share this page’ button on the left sidebar. It also has a blue ‘Create a Google+ page’ button. The +1 button is prominently displayed below the profile picture. Following a page adds it to a circle, just like a personal profile.

Brand pages had been one of the most anticipated Google+ features and has been pulling down branded profiles since its launch earlier this year. This all changed yesterday when Google said on its blog post that, “today we’re rolling out Google+ Pages worldwide”.

There are currently 20 companies that are active on Google+ pages, but this should increase rapidly as organisations are now free to join – and hang out with you. To use the new service, go to Google and search for [+], followed by the page you’re interested in, like +Pepsi. It’ll take you to their Google+ page, and if you want, you can add them to your circles.
